H. Kit Miyamoto, Ph.D., S.E. President & CEO of Miyamoto International and Global Risk Miyamoto
At the age 18, Kit Miyamoto came to the United States from Japan to pursue his dream of playing for the Dallas Cowboys football team. He played running back for California State University – Chico until a knee injury cut short his football career. He earned a master’s degree in civil engineering from Cal State – Sacramento and a doctorate of engineering from Tokyo Institute of Technology. In 1990, he joined Marr Shaffer Structural Engineers. In 1997, his mentor, John Shaffer, sold the company to Miyamoto and Miyamoto International was born.

Miyamoto International has grown 48% since 2009, during the worst economic climate in decades.
He opened international offices in Haiti, Milan, Istanbul and Tokyo to immediately respond to disasters.
He was appointed to the State of California Alfred E. Alquist Seismic Safety Commission.
He serves as president of Miyamoto Global Disaster Relief, a nonprofit organization supporting disaster mitigation response, relief and reconstruction.
He instituted the Rapid Damage Assessment Project of 400,000 structures in Haiti, training and leading a team of 600 engineers in Port-au-Prince following the 2010 earthquake.
He was the only structural engineer allowed to travel throughout Japan to investigate and assess damage following the 2011 Tohoku earthquake.
