The U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership for Energy and Environmental Design for Neighborhood Development (LEED-ND) was developed to integrate Smart Growth principles and green design practices into neighborhood design. LEED-ND also acts as a guideline for decision-making in determining site location, design and construction of neighborhoods.
LEED-ND version 1.0 just came out in Spring 2010 as a standalone rating system after being in pilot mode for several years. LEED-ND focuses on issues that affect the everyday person with how we live, work and play, and is the first rating system that addresses social sustainability and long term preservation and conservation of our natural habitat.
In this web event, Lauren Huynh, AIA, LEED AP BD+C of The Weidt Group provides the participants the basic understanding of LEED-ND and the certification process. She also talks about the benefits of these design principles, and assesses the feasibility for current or future projects.
